In an area that is rapidly changing how do we preserve some of the character and heritage of the area? How can we design to embody a memory of an industrial heritage? How can we design flexible buildings that can be adapted as the world around us changes? These have been the key questions we have asked ourselves to design a contextually appropriate and responsive building.
The design of the dwellings has picked up on the brick character of the surrounding industrial street and plays homage to their simplicity and honesty with large deliberate openings in the facades to illuminate the life that occurs within. Combined with a restrained material palette a clear and honest architectural composition is the result.The project also aims to achieve big things from a sustainability standpoint. The project will be carbon neutral and achieves 7 stars. This is what the homes of the future should be, flexible, sustainable and contextually appropriate.
